A truly relaxing week in the Cotswolds
Our son, Cameron, was born with numerous medical problems resulting in him being wheelchair-bound, and completely dependant on my wife and I for every aspect of his day-to-day life. We also have three other sons who, as a result, often have to take the back seat when it comes to attention from us.
We have tried organising family holidays for all of us before, but often ended up feeling more in need of a break after the holiday than we were before we left! Leaving Cameron in the more than capable hands of the Demelza House hospice team while the rest of our clan took a break had seemed to be the only real option. The only problem there was that, as any parent knows, we found it impossible to truly relax with one of our sons elsewhere. Particularly one who usually occupies so much of our lives.
We were therefore very grateful to receive the offer of a week's break from Homes with Heart. With all the organising taken care of for us, it seemed almost impossible that we could be going away with so little work on our part.
What followed, truly was the most relaxing week my wife and I have had since ..... I can't even remember when!
We stayed in a beautiful lakeside cottage in the Cotswolds, so generously donated to us by Mr and Mrs Harris. Cameron was as happy as I've ever seen him, just sitting on the decking, overlooking the lake, with a huge grin on his face. With him so content, we could take full advantage of the numerous facilities around the lake, spending some much needed precious time with our other boys.
I must say a huge thankyou from us all to Homes with Heart, and especially to the owners of our holiday cottage for their generosity.
Cameron was as happy as I've ever seen him.
