Welcome to a unique organization which lets holiday home owners donate spare weeks in their property so that other families, in desperate need of a break, can take some time out. Your house will be well looked after and our series of checks ensure that only the most suitable families benefit – those young families (adults under 50) where either a child or parent is terminally ill or has a life-limiting disease.
It takes energy and enthusiasm to plan a holiday. If a parent is suffering a cycle of treatments, the impact on the family is immense and a week’s break would be something to look forward to but this is just the time when the parent is too exhausted to plan ahead. Their healthcare professionals recognize this and their need to spend quality time together, so they are referred to Homes with Heart for us to match them to a property.
In most cases, we speak to the referring healthcare professionals regularly and they’ve often known the families they refer to us for many years. In an age where there are demands on our goodwill from around the globe, it is inspiring to be able to help an individual family at home at a time when it will really make a difference.
You don’t have to specify a week because we can keep an eye on your availability (if your house is online) and ask to borrow it when we see it is free. If it’s not convenient when we ask, you can always say ‘no’! You are not committed to anything until we have found a match.
So, please consider donating a week in your holiday home, if you are able to. The important thing is for us to make a difference where we can and as long as carers can recharge their batteries when they need it most, we are doing the right thing.
